You won’t have any doubts why these mouthwatering skewers are popular in Southeast Asia. These marinated beef are a culinary masterpiece, a delicious addition to your next grilling party. Dipped in a spicy peanut sauce, this beef satay is sure to leave an impression in your mouth.

Malaysian Beef Satay
Makes 4-6 servings


1 Red onion, minced

4 cloves Garlic, minced

¼ cup Soy sauce

2 Tbsps Canola oil

2 tsps Ground black pepper

4 tsps Ground cumin

4 tsps Ground turmeric

4 tsps Ground fennel

4 tsps Lemon zest

4 tsps Ground coriander seeds

700g Beef tenderloin, sliced thinly

  • Bamboo barbecue sticks



  • Cilantro
  • Crushed peanuts
  • Cucumber slices


  1. Combine the ingredients for the marinade except the beef in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Coat the beef slices in the marinade for at least two hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
  3. When ready to cook, thread the beef into the barbecue sticks or skewers.
  4. Grill for about three minutes on each side until cooked to medium. Garnish the satay with cilantro, crushed peanuts, and cucumber slices. Serve with the spicy peanut sauce on the side.

1 inch Ginger, sliced

2-3 Bird’s eye chilies (siling labuyo), sliced

2 tsps Sugar

1 cup Water

1 cup Roasted peanuts

½ cup Peanut butter


  1. To make the sauce, grind all the ingredients in a blender or food processor to make a coarse paste.
  2. Transfer to a sauce pot and bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally until reduced in half. Turn off heat and set aside.
