Now that the weather has gone cold, you’re probably looking for dishes that can warm you up during mornings spent under the covers. But when you’re tired of the usual bowl of soup, choose a spicy food that can instantly warm up your mouth and wake up your senses. Try these spicy beef pies, pot pies filled with ground beef and just the right amount of spice.

Spicy Beef Pies

Makes 4 servings

2 Tbsps Olive oil

2 cloves Garlic, crushed

1 Onion, chopped

¼ tsp Cumin powder

¼ tsp Ground turmeric

¼ tsp Salt

¼ tsp Pepper

¼ kilo Cooked ground beef

2 Tbsps Tomato paste

½ cup Green peas

1 cup Flour

⅛ tsp Salt

⅓ cup Butter

2 Tbsps Water

1 tsp Chopped herbs like green onion, coriander and basil

  • Beaten egg

  1. In a saucepan, heat the olive oil. Add the garlic, onion, cumin, turmeric, salt, and pepper and cook until fragrant. Add the ground beef, tomato paste, and green peas.
  2. In a food processor, pulse the flour, salt, and butter until you have coarse crumbs. Stir in the water and herbs, combining to form a dough. Let rest for a few minutes. Roll out into sheets and cut into circles (the same size as ramekins).
  3. Transfer the meat filling to ramekins and top with the prepared pie crust. Brush with beaten egg. Bake at 450˚F for 20 minutes (30 minutes for larger baking dishes) or until golden brown.
