This Savory Kung Pao Chicken Pasta Is Bursting With Umami!

Asian flavors in a pasta dish? That’s right! Salivate over the addicting savoriness of Kung Pao Chicken and how it goes great with al dente spaghetti noodles. And with the Clara Olé Kung Pao Pasta Sauce, cooking this Asian pasta is now a cinch! As an added tip, mix into the sauce some dried mushrooms and the water used to re-hydrated them with for an umami-packed flavor burst. You can also spice things up by putting in more chilies for that extra heat boost.


Makes 4-5 servings

3 Tbsps Peanut oil or coconut oil
4 cloves Garlic, minced
4 Boneless, skinless chicken breasts, diced medium
¼ tsp McCormick Iodized Salt
1/8 tsp McCormick Black Pepper Ground
1 Bird’s eye chili, sliced
2 (225g) packs Clara Olé Kung Pao Pasta Sauce
1 Red bell pepper, diced
10 Dried shiitake mushrooms, soaked in hot water, sliced
350-400g Spaghetti noodles, cooked al dente
2 Tbsps Peanuts
4 stalks Spring onions, sliced into1-inch lengths, plus more for garnish

  1. Heat two tablespoons oil in a non-stick or well-seasoned pan or wok over high heat. Toss in garlic and sauté for a minute, but do not brown.
  2. Add the chicken and continue cooking until the chicken is firm. Season with salt and black pepper. Transfer chicken to a plate and set aside.
  3. In the same wok, heat the remaining oil. Toss in the sliced bird’s eye chili and sauté for a few seconds. Add the red bell peppers, shiitake mushrooms, and spring onions then continue cooking for two minutes.
  4. Pour in the Clara Olé Kung Pao Pasta Sauce and a cup of reserved mushroom water. Bring sauce to a simmer then add chicken back to the wok.
  5. Add the cooked spaghetti noodles to the sauce and mix well. Top with peanuts and more spring onions before transferring to a serving platter.
