cinnamon sugar donut holes

One of the main distinguishing characteristics of a donut is the presence of holes but what really happens to the dough that we take from the center ring of the donuts? We just fry or bake them as these cute snacks are popular on their own. For this recipe, donuts aren’t a prerequisite to make these bite-sized delights because we just go straight to making them.

Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes
Makes 4-6 servings

2 cups All-purpose flour

½ cup White sugar

½ tsp Salt

1 Tbsp Baking powder

¼ tsp Ground cinnamon

⅛ tsp Ground nutmeg

2 Tbsps Melted butter

½ cup Whole milk

1 Egg, beaten

1 cup Oil, for frying

3 Tbsps White sugar

¼ tsp Ground cinnamon

  1. Heat oil in a large pan with high sides to 375˚F. In a large bowl, thoroughly mix together the dry ingredients and make a well in the center. In a small bowl, mix the wet ingredients and carefully pour into the dry ingredients. Mix together to combine until the dough forms a solid mass. With lightly floured hands, knead for a few minutes until well-combined.
  2. Form into balls and drop into the hot oil a few at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown. Remove fried donuts with a slotted spoon.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon. Coat the just cooked donuts with the cinnamon-sugar mixture and serve immediately.
