Braise yourselves for this lemongrass-mixed dish

braised pork belly in soy lemongrass

Lemongrass isn’t only well-known for its medicinal properties. In fact, this herb can also pride itself for having a distinctive taste that it adds to food, just like this braised pork belly. In this dish, savor the taste of lemongrass and discover the wonders it can do to your body.



Makes 4-5 servings


1 kilo Pork belly, skin on

1 ¾ cups Dark brown sugar

3-4 sticks Lemongrass, pounded

3 pcs Star anise

1 tsp Five spice powder

⅔ cup Dark soy sauce

6-8 cloves Garlic, crushed

¼ inch Ginger, sliced into strips

3 pcs Spring onions

1-2 tsps Salt

  1. Put pork belly in a deep roasting pan.
  2. In a different mixing bowl, put brown sugar, lemon grass, star anise, five spice powder, dark soy sauce, garlic, ginger and spring onions. Mix well. Pour over pork belly, cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  3. Pre-heat oven to 350°F. Cover roasting pan with marinated pork belly with foil, sealing the edges tightly. Bake in the oven for about three hours until very tender.
  4. Remove pork belly and let cool. Refrigerate if possible. Slice into strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Pour remaining sauce into a small pot and reduce sauce until syrupy. Pour over sliced pork.
