Boom Sticks: Dynamite Cheese Stick

This street food favorite deserves a spot in your kitchen. It has a a poppin’ taste that is sure to leave an impression in your mouth. Who would have thought that cheesy and spicy can make a good combination?

 

Dynamite Cheese Stick

Makes 2-3 servings

 

10 Finger chili peppers (siling pangsigang)

1 small block Cheese food, sliced into sticks

10 Lumpia wrappers

½ cup Cilantro, chopped

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

 

  1. Choose finger chili peppers that are long and straight. Use a small sharp knife to make a long incision along the side of the peppers, enough to scoop out the seeds inside. You may use the handle end of a teaspoon to do this.
  2. Put cheese sticks in the middle of the deseeded finger chilies. Set aside.
  3. On a flat surface or chopping board, lay lumpia wrapper flat. Place the finger chili in the middle and sprinkle with cilantro. Roll wrapper around the pepper, leaving the stem end out. Wet the edges to seal.
  4. In a frying pan or skillet, heat about 1 ½  inches of oil over medium heat. Add cheese sticks and fry until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes. Remove from the pan with tongs and let stand upright on a colander lined with paper towels to allow excess oil to drip down. Serve immediately.
