Usually, we make our sandwich with two pieces of bread slapped together with our own pick of filling. But with these irresistible toppings, this snack will tempt you into leaving your sandwich completely uncovered. What’s there to hide anyway?

 

Open-Faced Tuna Pesto Melt Sandwich

 

Makes 2-3 servings

 

1 Tbsp Canola oil

2 cloves Garlic, minced

1 Small red onion, chopped

1 (180g) can Tuna chunks in brine, drained

  • Salt and pepper, to season
  • Bottled or homemade basil pesto

3 Whole-wheat pan de sal, sliced in half

1 (150g) pack Havarti, shredded

1 Tomato, sliced thinly

 

  1. In a sauté pan, heat oil over medium heat. Sauté the garlic and onion, then add the tuna. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer to a bowl.
  2. Spread pesto on the cut side of each pan de sal half, then top with the cooked tuna, shredded havarti, and tomato slices.
  1. Toast until bread is golden brown and cheese has melted. Serve immediately.
